Sorry I haven’t posted in a while; quick update = when I finally got Mom and Dad placed in the same room in the rehabilitation hospital, Dad suddenly came down with a bad case of pneumonia and has been in serious condition in the Intensive Care Unit at a different local hospital. In other words, I’ve just had too much to do! He’s doing much better today and was able to talk with me this morning.
Got this in an email the other day! Looks like something I’d like, hopefully it will interest you, too!
| Improvisation Master Classes |
The following master classes are part of the Bienen School of Music’s four-part series, Music Education for the 21st Century. The series, which takes place between February and May 2009, is designed to spark discussion and fuel thought on new and innovative ways to move music education forward.”Improvisation, Creativity, and Consciousness: New
Pedagogical Horizons in Music and Beyond” Presented by Ed Sarath Wednesday, February 11 6 – 7 p.m. CST Pick-Staiger Concert Hall, or the Pick-Staiger webcast page This master class, for instrumentalists and vocalists alike, will explore improvisation as both a means for musical creativity and a vehicle for examining the mind’s creative process. The session will serve as an introduction for musicians with little or no background in improvisation as well as a method for expanding the horizons of experienced improvisers. Ed Sarath will guide participants through rhythmic exercises, movement, and meditation practices. Participants – and online viewers – are encouraged to bring their instruments to put the concepts of the class into practice.

Thanks, and more thanks. I am happy to see you online. If there is any thing we at the Darnell’s can do, you only have to ask. Or, just make a demand, the ball is all in your court… as we read between the lines. If you just say: “Shuuuuusssssh, I can do that too.. hehe”
Never seen you unable to “spout off” before, even during thesis weeks with your classes. Family has a way of making me feel a bit burdened too. If you want to blanket email, please include us in the contact list.
We have this blog that deals with our “Elders” called CLOG. I will send you an invitation. It is a non-public blog, and gets some unusual reports. I called it clog, because as I get to know others, I realize nests where our hearts dwell are sitting in the same branches. In the tree of life, an old nest looks like a clog up high in the tree.
After photographing and painting trees for 40 years now, I see in my peculiar way that Family trees do not follow a single thread, rather, a combination of families’ saplings of repeating patterns that nurture our emotions and attitudes. I have found comfort in dealing with my elder parents by way of many unwitting counselors.

Thanks for the kind words, Pat. We’re doing fine. Dad’s condition is improving very slowly but he’s picked up an MSRA infection on top of his pneumonia and we’re going in with masks, gloves and disposable gowns in order to visit him. He’s still a VERY sick man and I had no idea that pneumonia was such a brutal illness until my dad’s experience. They had to give him two more units of whole blood to get some (insert hospital lingo here) levels back in line. Prayers are appreciated.
